Interview | Wedding Videography | Morgan Films

In this interview, Morgan from multi award winning wedding videographer Morgan Films tells me about his business and style, his advice for couples, trends, what he loves about the wedding videography business, and more…

I ‘borrowed’ (thanks Morgan!) this quote from their website…

“We take the professionalism, discretion, and desire to craft something beautiful that we learnt from being on film sets, commercial work and six years of wedding filming and we bring that to your wedding.”

Hope that you enjoy this quick read - if you need more information, just use the links at the bottom of this page to reach out to Morgan and the team.

Please tell me about your business and style

We make beautiful, natural wedding films that allow you to relive the events and emotions of your special day.

We shoot discreetly with small cameras and merge into the crowd. We won’t direct a couple unless we feel it absolutely necessary to achieve their vision of their perfect wedding film.

What would be the most important piece of advice you would give a couple?

Enjoy yourselves!

All that planning will come off and for any little 'hiccups' that may occur, roll with them. They'll become treasured memories too.

What are the most popular requests and current trends for next year?

On top of all day filming, drone filming remains a popular extra and we are looking to add ceremony live streaming to our service given the events of 2020.

The last request is still being refined to protect the privacy of the couple and the quality of the final edited wedding film.

Do you have a favourite review?

The biggest compliment we can get on the day is when we go to say goodbye and the couple tell us they forgot we were there.

As for a favourite review, that's really tricky as we've recieved some very touching thank-yous.

Our relationship with our clients does seem to last well past the actual delivery and it would feel weird to single one review out.

What do you love about the wedding business?

We have been making films since we were teenagers and without giving too much away, that’s a combined total of over 30 years experience.

After working with many talented actors, directors and crew, sometimes doing take after take, we love the adrenaline of a live event where the emotions and action don't need to be directed but anticipated.

We consider ourselves very lucky to be doing a job we love with clients who are in love.

What is your personal favourite touch you have seen at a wedding?

As filmmakers, anything that adds atmosphere and drama to a shoot. Fireworks and sparklers always create some beautifully lit and dramatic moments. Set dance pieces are always a joy to film and edit - especially with multiple cameras helping to make everything cinematic.

Surprises for the crowd and capturing their reactions are up there too.

I remember we were asked by one couple to create a scene of them emerging from a cloud of pink smoke. Now, as I said, we don't normally direct but on this occasion, the couple were very specific that they wanted this shot and this requires some direction and planning.

We bought some pink smoke 'bombs' established the best place to use them, framed up the shot with shafts of sunlight breaking through gaps in the smoke, and called out 'action'.

The couple was very happy with the outcome and we were very pleased too, especially given the tight timeframe we had to capture it. Because we were so fast and filmed it away from the guests, no one else had any idea that they did it until they saw the wedding trailer we delivered the next day.

Memories of a favourite wedding?

Ha ha I couldn't possibly choose a favourite wedding! There have been so many fantastic moments we've been witness to.

Obviously, editing together excellent speeches into one film and pulling out some of the best lines for a highlights film really makes our day. Great audio with an emotional soundtrack gets us every time.

Is wedding videography still a luxury or has it become an essential service?

We're getting bookings earlier and earlier in couples’ planning stage so it's safe to say that we are starting to become an essential service for a growing number of couples.

The biggest regret we hear from couples who already got married is that they didn't get a professional to film their wedding.

From a personal perspective, our wedding photos have become part of the furniture of our house while our video has become something that we can watch as a family (the kids ask so many questions - seeing and hearing people makes it so real for them).

We even put it on sometimes just to listen to it and visually dip in while we're getting stuff done around the house. Clean audio is an often overlooked yet vital part of the experience.

Tell me about your favourite wedding traditions that you’ve come across

I do love to film the face of the groom standing with his back to the bride as she walks up the aisle. The range of emotions that fly across both their faces during and once the couple see each other is always a buzz.

Thanks so much to Morgan for taking the time to answer these questions.
