When Becky and Nathan planned their big day, they had one main goal – for them and their guests to have fun! The couple loved Southlands Barn because of its stunning oak beams in the barn which creates a romantic atmosphere for the ceremony. It created the perfect backdrop for their rustic-themed wedding.
What made this venue extra special for Becky? The peacocks! She loved that these beautiful birds roamed the grounds, adding a unique touch to their celebration.
They also loved the countryside views for their couples photos. The lake, the swing under the ancient tree, and the South Downs were a perfect backdrop!
Having their ceremony in the barn with its warm glowing lighting hanging from the rafters was one of their favourite features because it was so warm and welcoming.
To keep things nice and relaxed, they went for a BBQ-style sit-down wedding breakfast, which was perfect way to give them time to mingle with their family and friends in-inbetween courses.
Their wedding at this Pulborough venue was a true reflection of their personalities – fun, rustic, and full of personal touches. The photos captured at this West Sussex barn tell their unique love story in such a special way.
The photo opportunities at Southlands Barn are simply fantastic! Here’s what makes this venue near Horsham so great for wedding photography…
The barn’s warm lighting creates soft, flattering photos throughout the day… perfect for the ceremony too.
For the evening dancing, the beams are lit with a fantastic range of colours… green, blue and red. It really delivers for the dance floor photos!
From the wooden-beamed ceremony room to the countryside views, the lake, the Highland cattle… Southlands offers plenty of spots for varied photos. The contrast between the rustic indoor spaces and lush outdoor areas gives couples a great mix of backdrops.

When photographing at Southlands Barn, I focus on catching all the little details that make each wedding unique:
The getting ready room at Southlands is perfect for those emotional moments before the ceremony… Mum doing up the buttons on the back of your dress, and helping to do up the clasp on your bracelet that your (at that moment) fiancé gifted you earlier, or sorting out the straps on your wedding shoes.
Those quiet moments tell the start of your wedding day story.
The oak-beamed ceremony room creates such a warm, intimate setting for your vows. The natural wood tones add a rich texture to photos, while the light through the doors provides that perfect lighting as you walk past them arm in arm with your Dad as you see your groom in his suit for the first time.
As day turns to evening, the barn transforms with multi-coloured lighting. It creates a magical setting for those evening moments – first dances, cake cutting, and guests laughing together!.
How long should we allow for wedding photos at Southlands Barn?
I suggest 1.5 hours for your couples, group photos, and confetti/bubbles photos. This gives us time to use various spots around the venue without keeping you away from your guests too long.
What happens if it rains on our Southlands Barn wedding day?
No need to worry! The barn has plenty of gorgeous indoor spaces with great light. Rain often creates a cozy atmosphere inside, and sometimes we can catch a few outdoor shots between showers.
Can we take photos with the peacocks?
Absolutely! While we can’t control where the peacocks go, they’re often nearby. I’ll keep an eye out for good photo opportunities with them throughout your day.
What time of day is best for photos at Southlands Barn?
Late afternoon tends to work beautifully, when the sun is lower and creates a golden glow across the venue. That said, the barn and courtyard photographs well throughout the day.
How many images will we receive from our Southlands Barn wedding?
Most full-day weddings at Southlands result in 400-600 edited images, if capturing everything from morning prep to evening dancing.
